So Jan term is over and I've seen a lot going on in the Emergency Department this past week. A lot of young children with the flu, a teenager hit by a car, two strokes. A really important part of this whole process for me was to see medical traumas and feel more "comfortable"in that environment. Understandably, it should be shocking to see these sorts of traumas up close, but if I am going to someday work in this environment I need to have a level of tolerance to that shock. I still have some more hours for my internship and I will continue volunteering even after my hours have been completed. A few of the nurses have started to tell me when major things are happening in the ED rather than me having to always ask and keep my eyes peeled. It feels as though it's taken a while to get to that point with the nurses, and I don't want to lose it now that my internship is almost over! We'll see what else I'll get to experience.
