Hi Interns,

My Jan term has been pretty busy...it's unreal that it is almost over! I've been spending time in both the ER and Medical/Surgical unit which has kept my shifts really busy. I've been really happy with having the time during January term to spend lots of hours and late nights getting experience. My favorite Med/Surg time is just handing out meal trays to patients. It seems simple but I really enjoy the patient interaction. Most of the patients don't say much but there is almost always at least one patient that will further a conversation with me. It's mostly older people who will ask why I'm spending time there, what I'm going to school for, and it's just fun carrying on conversations with them. I've been observing a lot recently in the ER. Spending so much time there, I have learned the nurses' names and feel a lot more comfortable asking if I can observe with them. I don't think I would be getting the experience I have been if I wouldn't have spend the majority of my internship during Jan term. The nurses are at such a fast pace, it really takes a while before they even know your name. It's been a lot of really small but important accomplishments I''ve achieved over the term and each shift gives me more confidence that I'm headed in the right direction with my future career.

Last Cupcake update until spring

Hello Interns!

I hope you all have had a good Jan term so far! I can't believe this is the last week of Jan Term! This month went by so fast but I am excited for the break and to go back to California and see my family.  I am excited to start spring semester in 2 weeks and I know that spring semester will go by so fast aslo.

Things at Cupcake have been the same. I worked Friday and Saturday and for a couple hours today.  Saturday was busier then Friday or today.  This was the last day I work until spring semester. I have also become closer with my co-worker, Jessica. She is really fun and easy to get along with.  I feel that I have come so far in learning about how to work in retail. It;s been 4 months since I started working here and I am so grateful for this opportunity.  I have learned so much about customer service, how to own a small business, how to order clothes, and how to owrk the cash register.  Before this internship I didn't know anything about working in a store, or working anywhere.  Now luckily I have experience in retail which could help me when looking for jobs in the future.

We have soe spring clothes here in Cupcake which is exciting but I think most of the spring inventory will be here in a month or so.  Hopefully it will warm up sooner rather than later.

Anyways, that's all the updates about Cupcake!
See you in the spring!

Hello January!

Hello fellow interns!

This is my first blog for January! Can't believe we are already nearing the end of Jan Term! I have had a great experience these past few weeks both in my Sports Management course and at Robert Roe. Our Instagram is doing really well, there are new looks posted right now that seem to be generating a lot of positive feedback. Overall right now I am struggling to find how I can best be effective at an intern and employee at Robert Roe. We've had a great selling month, it seems that every time I work we sell some awesome pieces!

I am starting to work with a member of my sorority now to get Robert Roe involved with Red Dress Gala, our big charity event. Red Dress is an event we host every year to raise funds and awareness for our philanthropy - cardiac care for women. Heart disease is the number one killer of women today, so as strong female leaders in our community it's our goal to spread the word! I hope to organize a little basket that Robert Roe can donate - not only to help out a good cause but to get our name out there further in the community!

That's all for now!

January Cupcake Updates

Hello all,

I hope everyoneis keeping warm in this freezing cold weather!  I know that I am definitely looking forward to some warm and sunny weather eventually. And I hope all of you had a great first half of Jan Term if you're on campus taking a class and if not, I hope you had a relaxing past 2 weeks. I can't believe Jan Term is already half over! Time flies!

Things at Cupcake have been going really well! Even though things are sometimes slow, we manage to end up selling a lot of inverntory, especially this past weekend! I worked from 2 until closing on Friday and all day on Saturday. Even though that my coworker Jessica and I were unaware the locks were changed Saturday morning, we managed to call another coworker to let us in. And now I have the right key fortunately. I completed my project of picking out new spring clothing for the store this past weekend which was really fun! I enjoyed looking through the new spring lookbooks and picking out pieces that would compliment each other.

So things have been great here and I'm loving working here!

Willamette Valley Medical Center

Hi Fellow Interns,

I am back for Jan term with the sole purpose of completing my internship at Willamette Valley Medical Center. I was able to put in a few hours each week during Fall term but now I am really looking forward to be able to put in long days at the hospital. This past week I was trained to work on the Medical/Surgical floor. Now I have more options to spend time in either the Emergency Department or the Med/Surg floor. I like to keep busy, so it's nice to have more responsibilities and tasks while I'm there. So far, I have kept busy with the various tasks but have not had as much patient interaction or seen as many medical events as I would like. From what I have heard, I shouldn't expect too much from the Med/Surg floor but the ED should be more exciting. During Jan term, I'll be able to spend some late nights in the ED and hopefully see some more emergencies. It's horrible to say that I want the ED to be busy when I'm in there...but I really do so that I can see some of those patient/nurse/doctor interactions during the chaotic times of medical emergencies. Ultimately I would like to get a real feel whether or not I would like to be working in that environment someday.

I'll keep you updated on how it's going!

1st January Cupcake Update

Hello all!

I hope everyone had a fun and relaxing winter break!  The break came and went way to fast at least for me, but I am excited to be back at school with my friends for Jan Term.  Since I only have class Tuesday-Thursday I have more time to work at Cupcake.  So for this month, I will be working on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays. Last Monday I was excited to go back to work at Cupcake.  It was pretty slow but still, I liked being able to be there and do something productive.  Sam gave me a project due at the end of the month.  She gave me a Jack and BB Dakota spring line catalogues. They are both brands Cupcake sells and my task is to pick out clothes from the catalogues that I would want to see in the store for spring.  My budget is $1500 and I was instructed to pick clothes for the spring that tell a story and look good on a rack together.  I'm very excited to pick some clothes for spring and to go through and look and BB Dakota and Jack's spring line of clothes.

I can't wait for all of the new spring apparel to arrive at Cupcake! Even though it is still freezing and cloudy outside and currently snowing as I write this, I am still excited to see what cute spring clothes Cupcake will have.

Hope everyone had a good weekend and I hope everyone has a great week ahead!
